The mediational role of intimate partner acceptance and psychological adjustment in the relationship between intimate partner control and marital adjustment

Abstract Grounded in Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection Theory (IPARTheory), this exploratory study investigated the associations among perceived intimate partner rejection, control, psychological maladjustment, and marital adjustment. Perceived behavioral control relationships has been under-researched within context of IPARTheory. Although role child/adolescent-parent well-established, insufficient exploration phenomenon marriage calls for new empirical findings. The conveniently selected sample consisted 624 (360 female, 264 male) married individuals living big cities Turkey. Intimate Partner Acceptance-Rejection/Control Questionnaire, Personality Assessment Dyadic Adjustment Scale, Demographic Form were utilized to gather data. Structural Equation Modeling was as primary analysis test proposed sequential mediational model study. results indicated that significantly indirectly associated with adjustment through mediating effects rejection maladjustment. Moreover, had direct on maladjustment indirect effect via mediation found be significant.
